Alex Persons
Alex believes in approaching each client with a warm, open-minded, nonjudgmental, and compassion-focused lens. Alex’s theoretical approach draws primarily upon DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and feminist therapy interventions, allowing Alex to balance skills-based, solution-oriented counseling with emotional processing work. In addition to the effective integration of empirically valid theory, Alex’s engagement with clients is driven by his personal commitment to creating an experience for clients that is specifically tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.
Helping clients identify and reconsider oppressive internalized narratives is a significant component in Alex’s work with all his clients, particularly in the areas of anxiety, giftedness and twice-exceptionality, ADHD and neurodivergence, men's health issues, sexuality and sexual health issues, life transitions, trauma and grief, and LGBT mental health.
While Alex works primarily with adolescents and adults ages 14 and older, his training reflects his diverse clinical experience, including community mental health, university counseling centers, private practice, and psycho-educational assessments with children aged five to 18.
Alex holds a Master's of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University and a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from The University of Georgia (GOOOO Dawgs! Sic' em!). A native ATLien, Alex enjoys attending musicals at The Fox Theatre, reading, and exploring and photographing North Georgia. He and his fiancé are avid foodies, horror movie goers, baseball fans, musical theatre attendees, and travelers.
Alex is under the supervision of Chelsey Beauchamp, LPC, CPCS.
