"I don't love you, but I always will"

One of my favorite bands is The Civil Wars, and one of the first songs I discovered by them is titled “Poison and Wine.” The song encapsulates the realization that, while a couple's relationship may have its flaws and moments of discontent, there remains a deep commitment to one another. It acknowledges that even during times when they may not feel particularly "in love," their bond endures. The poignant chorus repeats, “I don’t love you, but I always will,” highlighting this lasting connection.

Does this song resonate with your own relationship? Do you find yourself feeling stuck in a routine, struggling to connect with your partner?

I hope this song offers you and your partner some reassurance that you are not alone in your struggles. Even when love feels scarce, it's possible to embrace and appreciate each other despite imperfections. One of my favorite lines from the song beautifully captures the essence of hope in a relationship: “I don’t have a choice, but I still choose you.” May you both find inspiration in this song as you navigate your journey together.

Poison & Wine

You only know what I want you to
I know everything you don't want me to
Your mouth is poison, your mouth is wine
You think your dreams are the same as mine

I don't love you but I always will
I don't love you but I always will
I don't love you but I always will
I always will

I wish you'd hold me when I turn my back
The less I give the more I get back
Your hands can heal, your hands can bruise
I don't have a choice, but I still choose you
