Sarah is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has specialized in child and adolescent therapy. Sarah has gained considerable professional experience in her work in a variety of settings, including an inpatient/outpatient psychiatric hospital for adolescents, a group home for children and adolescents in the court system, and a residential treatment center for men and women dealing with substance abuse/addiction issues. Sarah enjoys coaching families through the adolescent period of development and helping to facilitate open communication and positive interactions between teens and parents.
Sarah’s experience and clinical training have prepared her to work with preteens, adolescents, and their families on a wide range of needs that include:
School performance anxiety
Issues of perfectionism
Mood disorders (depression, anxiety)
Supporting teens and their families following a hospitalization/intensive treatment experience
Adolescent-parent relationship issues
Communication, conflict resolution, improving positive interactions
Sarah has completed both undergraduate and graduate level research focusing on issues such as spirituality, trauma, and altruistic motivation in adolescents. She completed her B.A. in psychology at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. She then earned an M.A. in Professional Counseling from Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, Georgia where she focused her studies on children and adolescents. Originally from the Midwest, Sarah moved to Georgia in 2006 following the completion of her undergraduate degree for an internship opportunity with Young Life. Sarah enjoys good iced coffee, scarves, and nonfiction books. She is also a supporter of To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with mental illness and addiction. Sarah is a guest blogger for TWLOHA and is passionate about mental health advocacy.
